The first ugly stage of working out shading. I tend to do very little detail when I do the initial drawings
This painting was done on commission by a surgeon who purchased my graphite painting "No So Different". He wanted to hang the two together to compare the two hands.
First the outline with a smudge stick
Here's another example of a WIP. I tend to start of with a very simple outline with not a lot of detail. I do this just to get the dimensions correct and things in the right place. The details come later.
